About Yoga for Bump

Yoga for Bump sessions are TOTALLY FREE. Each session includes a  pregnancy yoga class, an informal chat with a local midwife, and the opportunity to hear about the latest pregnancy research.

Refreshments and yoga mats are provided – all you need to bring is yourself!

A local qualified midwife runs each class and is on hand to answer any pregnancy or health-related questions you may have: take part in group discussions or ask questions you haven’t asked at your appointments.

Why Yoga?

Exercise in pregnancy has many benefits. Yoga has been shown to make labour easier and decrease stress. Yoga is a low-impact exercise and recommended by healthcare practitioners.

Yoga for Bump sessions are run by a qualified midwife who has been running pregnancy exercise classes for 25 years in and around Birmingham.

History

Yoga for Bump was created by staff at the University of Birmingham: Dr Laura Goodwin (a maternity researcher) and Dr Magdalena Skrybant (a Patient and Public Involvement lead).

The project is funded by a Wellcome Trust Public Engagement Fund, which supports public involvement in research. This work is also supported by CLAHRC-WM.

FAQ

How much does it cost?

Yoga for Bump sessions are totally free! The project is funded by the Wellcome Trust in conjunction with the University of Birmingham and is running until the end of December 2018. You may come to as many sessions as you like, and there will never be a charge!

What do I wear?

Wear loose comfortable clothing which you are able to move around freely in.

What do I bring?

Yoga mats and refreshments are provided. You may wish to bring a water bottle so that you do not need to get up during the session.

Do I need to book?

No – classes are free and there is no need to book in advance – just come along on the day!

Who can Come?

Anyone who is pregnant!

If you have a health condition or complications in your pregnancy, please check with your healthcare provider who will be able to advise on an individual basis. You can also get in touch using the form below, and our midwife will be able to advise.

Is there parking available?

Yes – there is free parking available at both sites.
